At the Crossroads – Malaysia

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin in Malaysia

December 2006
There are claims Malaysia’s secular constitution is being threatened by creeping Islamisation. Non-Muslims feel they are being treated as second-class citizens.

Moorthy Maniam was a Malaysian Hindu hero. After he died, a group of Muslims claimed he’d made a deathbed conversion. Despite his widow’s protests, the Sharia Courts declared he should be buried as a Muslim. “They used Moorthy to show that in this country, Islam is supreme”, complains lawyer M Manoharan. In the 1980s, Malaysia’s Sharia courts were given equal power to the civil courts, creating two parallel legal systems. But while the Sharia Courts are constantly trying to extend their authority, secular courts are reluctant to challenge them. “Non Muslims have no place to go and fight for their basic rights”.

So stay with me (with me),

The mountains and the sea.

CNN : Noordin Top Not killed in Raid

Posted on August 17th, 2009 by admin in Malaysia Accommodation

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) — DNA testing shows that Indonesia’s most wanted terror suspect, Noordin Top, was not killed in an 18-hour raid in Central Java during the weekend, national police said on Wednesday.
“After matching the DNA to the relatives of Noordin in Malaysia and Indonesia we can confirm that the body … is not Noordin Top,” said Edy Suparwoko of the national police disaster victim identification unit.
“The body belongs to Ibrohim, a member of Noordin’s network,” said Nanan Soekarna, a spokesman for the national police.
Police believe Ibrohim was the organizer and planner of the twin suicide bombings in Jakarta last month. Police had earlier said Noordin was the main suspect in those attacks because he claimed responsibility for them.
The coordinated bombings against the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels killed seven people and the two suspected bombers and wounded more than 50.

Coming Home with Air Asia

Posted on August 7th, 2009 by admin in Malaysia Accommodation

A few weeks ago, October the 28th, 2008 to be exact in Malaysia, I was waiting to board a flight with Air Asia flying from Kuala Lumpur to Gold Coast, Australia. This was an overnight flight and we were due to fly out at 9.30 PM.

The plane was delayed till 12.30 AM so Air Asia supplied everyone with dinner. Being a low budget Airline they did not have to do this and they went out of their way to make us happy.

Finally we were told the engineers could not have the plane ready to fly that night, and by this time it was almost 1 AM.

This is no fault of Air Asia and I have seen this happen to many airlines and I would sooner wait than have them rushed the plane and we crash.

Air Asia then arranged accommodation and a bus to take us to the hotel.

Can you imagine the logistics of finding beds for 200 people at 1 AM, finding buses to transport us to the hotel, and having our passports stamped we had technically left Malaysia so Air Asia had to also work this out with Malaysian Immigration.

This would be a nightmare in any country in the world.

They could have just left us at the airport

We had a room for the night in a reasonable hotel, an awesome breakfast next morning followed by another awesome lunch. Then a representative of Air Asia arrived at the hotel and explained that Malaysian Air would take us home.

Even after boarding Malaysian Air an Air Asia representative was there to make sure we were OK and stayed till we were due to fly.

I do not endorse any product, but the way we were looked after, the courtesy and hospitality and professional conduct of the Air Asia staff overwhelmed me, thus the reason I wrote this song/jingle

Thank You Air Asia

ATILIA – Ranjau MV ( Album Sangkar)

Posted on August 2nd, 2009 by admin in Malaysia Deals

Malaysia contemporary Jazz & Soul

A singer and songwriter, her adult contemporary sound is soulful and contemplative yet deals with universal themes of life and love to which anyone can relate.

Atilia has already dabbled in the music industry from a young age. She has a rich musical heritage and has given strong indications of her talent since young. When Atilia was 12 years old, she was selected as the lead singer for a regional Coca-Cola commercial representing Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in Liverpool, England. Two years later, she recorded a duet with her mother in Kadang Kala in the latters album Menghitung Hari.

At the ripe old age of 32, Atilia is now set to share her music and her words with the public even though she had signed up with RAP almost ten years ago. One of the hardest lessons I have learned being under Roslans wing is patience, and knowing when it is right to make my debut. For the past ten years, Ive been concentrating on improving my music, writing songs, exposing myself to different ideas and also sharpening my focus and becoming more disciplined about my music. Now, I feel I am ready!

I know that making it in the music industry is very tough, my mother has been very open with the opportunities as well as the tribulations this career brings. She has brought me up with a balanced view of what it takes to pursue singing as a career its not all glitz and glamour, in fact its a lot of hard work and one has to be able to deal with the uncertainties in terms of career future and growth. That is also another reason why I feel I am ready mentally and emotionally now to make my mark in the industry.

Because Atilia is not a conventional artist, we are not marketing her in the conventional way, said Roslan Aziz. Instead of the usual approach where a new artist releases an album, we are taking an alternative route whereby we will build her fan base via selected showcase performances, radio airplay and the release of her first single Salah Sangka at selected music outlets only, he explained.

Roslan intends to build up the demand for her music and when the time is right, he and Atilia will unleash her album to the fans. This innovative marketing approach is meant to tease and tantalise the fans into wanting more and then catering to that need.
